5TH SUNARPA Colloguoum At Amoud University

Amoud University today played host to a high powered delegation of SUNARPA TEAM which converged at Amoud University College of Health Sciences Main Meeting Hall for the start of the 5th Colloguoum of SUNARPA; comprising a 5-day conference scheduled to take place at Amoud University, and further planned to be followed by 14-day tour (inclusive of the conference) of the Somaliland pastoralist regions.
The delegates were hosted at the pleasure of Amoud University Vice President for
Administration and Finance Prof A. A. Boqore, on behalf of the President Amoud University Prof. Suleiman A. Gulaid, who is also away on an official trip to Dalarna University, Sweden, on another academic and linkage mission. The V.P. Administration and Finance was accompanied by the Vice President Academic Affairs Prof. Omar A. Abdillahi. On the one hand, Prof. Boqore represented Prof. Sulaiman, in his capacity as a member of the Project Team and on the other as the President of the host University for the event.

The meeting, which was convened by sunarpa team was officially opened today by Hon. Mr. Farah Elmi Geedole, Somaliland Minister for Agriculture, who was invited to the podium by Mr. Abdo Ahmed Ayar, who is currently the incumbent governor for Awdal Region.  The Minister for Agriculture welcomed the guests and the entire delegation to Somaliland on his ministry’s behalf as a state partner/facilitator in sunarpa team and on behalf of the government of Somaliland as the host state. Similarly, the governor also gave the guests and entire delegation a warm welcome on his own behalf and on behalf of the hosting communities in the Awdal Region, wishing them nice stay during the period of the activities scheduled.

SUNARPA is an acronym that stands for Sustainable Use of Natural Resources & Peace In Pastoralist Areas In Africa. Sunarpa’s main concern is in Mapping of water and Conflicts and Best management practises In Pastoralist Areas In Sahel Region. The organization aims to create in-depth knowledge, develop an interdisciplinary research methodology and transfer the know-how to all relevant stakeholders.
The Project Team includes representatives from the five African universities listed here below in collaboration with The Technical University of Berlin, Germany. Sunarpa team aims at contributing to strengthening research in Africa, to strengthen regional/ pan-African research and to supporting sustainable development and peace in pastoralist areas.
The following representatives formed the delegation that converged today Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Amoud University College of Health, Main Meeting Hall.

Germany: Technical University of Berlin/ EcoDevelopment Ltd. Team: Prof. Dr. Brigitte Farenhorst; Frank Zelazny, MA; Dr. peter Ay; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gabriele Zdunnek.
IGAD[Intergovernmental Authority on Development] Team: Dr. Debalkew Berhe and Yufnalis Okubo, LLM.
Niger: Abdou Moumouni University and RIESCA(Reseau International d’Etudes Strategiques sur les Conflicts en Afrique) Team: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boubacar daouda Diallo; Dr. Mounkaila Harouna; Prof. Dr. Amadou Boureima.
Somaliland: Amoud University team: Prof Suleiman Guleid (President) who was absent today due to another important engagement at Dalarna University, Sweden; Mohamed Heban Awale, BA.
The Sudan: University of Khartoum/ Yabconsult Team: Assoc. prof. Dr. Musa Adam Abdul-Jalil, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Khadam, Dr. Hussein Abubakr Ibrahim, Dr. Abdabasit Saeed.
